While studying at the Corcoran School of Art in D.C.,an assignment was to draw or paint something that captured your interest from the Smithsonian museums.There was an African art exhibit at the time and I chose this wooden sculpture.I had recently returned from a trip to New Orleans where I had been to a market and shops in the French Quarter that displayed masks and other carved wooden peices from Africa.
